This branch of the Dalrymple family have certainly spread far and wide though there appears to be very few of them.
I have posted on Rootschat boards for other places but am now searching in the Paisley, Renfrewshire area.
George Samuel Wemyss Dalrymple was born in L'Orient, France:
On the 18th December 1828 at 11am, George Wemyss Dalrymple, propriétaire, aged 28, presented a male infant, son of himself and Eliza Thompson Hall, his wife, married at (Guernsey?), (7th August 1826?), the child named George Samuel Wemyss (Dalrymple)
That raises the question, "Who are the parents of George Wemyss Dalrymple?" I have found clues by searching Google Books:
1. DEATH: The Gentleman's Magazine, January 01, 1848, at Glasgow, Mr George Wemyss Dalrymple, son of the Lieut-Col James Dalrymple, of the Madras Army and grandson of the late William Dalrymple, Bart. of Cousland.
2. The Annual Miscellany for ... - Page 59
Handbooks, vade-mecums, etc - 1849
Dalrymple, Mr. George Wemyss, son of the late Lieutenant- Colonel James
Dalrymple, of the Madras Army, and grandson of the late Sir William Dalrymple....
3. Author, William Dalrymple speaks of Lieut-Col James Dalrymple as having married Mooti Begum, an Indian princess. It seems they had 4 sons and a daughter. The 4 sons were brought up as Christians and sent back to East Lothian to be integrated into Scottish society.
George Wemyss Dalrymple died in Paisley and I have a copy of the probate record. All pointers suggest that he is the son of Lieut- Col James Dalrymple and Mooti Begum, Grandson of William Dalrymple, 3rd Bart and father of George Samuel Wemyss Dalrymple who married Sarah Thomson, had 2 daughters, Agnes Sophie Wemyss Dalrymple born Leith, Midlothian, c1851 and Emily Eliza Dalrymple born c1853, Leith, Midlothian. A son, John George Wemyss Dalrymple was born in NZ.
