Benjamin Carr
« on: Tuesday 07 July 09 15:03 BST (UK) »
I am searching for any information on my 3 x great grandfarther Benjamin  Carr who I believe was born at Walker in the parish of Longbenton Northumberland in the year 1823 the son of AARON and SARAH CARR   AARON b1789 at Longbenton, in turn was the son of GEORGE CARR  and BETHIAH SANDERSON. I  have no documentary proof of any of this at all. The only information I have is that BENJAMIN CARR married JANE WILKINSON b1827 at Heworth shore near Gateshead, the daughter of ROBERT WILKINSON, on the 13 Oct 1849 at St Georges Church, Port Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. Thay had three children SARAH JANE b 13Dec 1851, and possibly JACK b18 Sep 1857 and BETHIAH B 12 Sep 1859 but cannot find any records of baptism on the IGI The 1861 census shows JANE and SARAH JANE CARR living at Elswick, Newcastle on Tyne, the 1871 census shows SARAH JANE CARR living in Walker, and the 1881 census shows SARAH JANE  now married to MATHEW GRAY a railway stoker and living at 66 Askew road, Gateshead with daughter CICELY JANE GRAY and JANE CARR widow and mother in law at the same address, on 25 Dec 1879 when SARAH JANE CARR married MATTHEW GRAY, BENJAMIN CARR shows on the marriage certificate as an engineer and appears to be alive so logically he must have died between 1879 and the date of the 1881 census JANE CARR died in 1885 and is buried in the WILKINSON family grave at St Mary's church Heworth. Can anyone help me find out about this elusive man and his family?

BENJAMIN CARR shows on the marriage certificate as an engineer and appears to be alive

Do you mean that he is not shown as 'deceased' on the certificate?  Or, was he a witness to the marriage?

The marriage certificate of Matthew Gray & Sarah Jane Carr on  25/12/1879 shows the grooms father as William Gray occupation Cooper, deceased. The brides father shows as Benjamin Carr Engineer.
