Birth/Baptism - BATES

I am still searching for the baptism/death records of my John Bates.
The only thing I am sure of was that he was married in 1779 in marsworth.

BUT
I have been given a registration number for a John Bates bapt 1754 in Herfordshire.  RG41377.

To be honest I don't really know what to do with the number - ie where one would look and how I would look given I live in Australia.

Is anyone able to tell me what information is connected with this number?

Hi,

There is no trace of a 1754 baptism for John Bates in Hertfordshire on the IGI.

The Parish Registers for Marsworth have been deposited with Buckinghamshire Record Office.

Sorry to have misled you.  The item did not appear on my version of the County IGI Index.      If you need a look-up on parish records I can arrange this on my next visit to HALS.

I figured as much Peter..... I know you do amazing research.  I had a feeling from using FreeReg that the hertfordshire registers were incomplete.

However I'm still not sure this is the john I'm looking for.

I have more information on John Bates.... but I don't know if I can claim him as mine... any suggestions would be good

So

William Bates and Martha had the following children..

William 1753
John 1754
Joseph 1757
Sarah 1759

they lived in the Cheshunt area of Hertford.  I guess that Cheshunt is about 40-50km from Marsworth so I'm not sure if this is a realistic move for someone in 1750-1780s.

as I said I'm not sure where to go with this or what to look for next.
