Margaret McClurg
« on: Saturday 11 July 09 07:39 BST (UK) »
Hello Rootschat
Is there anyone out there that could do a little look up for me in Killyleagh 2nd Presbyterian church.
I have a Margaret McClurg's death certificate dated 12th August 1893 [aged 6 years, cause debility from birth, no medical attendant]
I have a birth certificate for a Margaret McClurg dated 25th June 1893.
I would like to find a birth date for the first Margaret.
I am not sure if this is an error the aged 6 years as my grandmother Maggie Mcclurg [maybe the 2nd child born] was supposed to be 8yrs in 1905 when they sailed to NZ,

Thankyou Linda

Index to civil registrations is now online (free) so it might be worthwhile checking for other Margaret McClurg entries (your grandmother's birth for example). It is possible that a daughter died uoung and another was given the same Christian name. Taking a quick look at the index I notice that there's a death for a Margaret McClurg (age 6) registered July/Sept.1893 Downpatrick and a birth in the same district registered in the same quarter. What is the actual registration date on the birth certificate that you have? it it's after 12 August then it makes sense. However, the cause of death 'debility from birth' makes it sound more like an infant who died, doesn't it?

It looks likely that the 6 years is a mistake for "6 weeks" on the death cert and they are the same person.

Thankyou I did post a reply but it vanished into who knows where.

I cold not find a birth or death for a Margaret McClurg  in the pilot on Family Search for 1893.
I am sure there are two girls both with the same name.
The death I have is for August 1893 a 6 year old. the birth is for June 1893.
In the 1901 Irish census Margaret [Maggie] is from memory a three year old so she cannot have been born in 1893,
She was 8 when she came to New Zealand.
On 17 th Feb 1910 she is 13 years 10 months, I found some documents in Archives Auckland NZ.
I have had a search done in Ireland for another birth from 1893 to 1899 for another Margaret / Maggie McClurg to no avail. Any suggestions ????
Thanks Linda :'(

Perhaps she was registered as 'female' without Christian name given yet or else registered under another Christian name which the family soon changed (I've seen it happen).

When searching civil registrations index it's best to search 'Mc' names as "M' " (thus "M'Clurg" rather than "McClurg").
