Did you say Timberlake? King's Langley / Abbitt's Langley / Sarratt?
And that you've got a line traced back to the 1480s??
I'd love to compare notes, htimberlake, because I seem to be linked in to this line.
Susannah Timberlake (1760 - 1846) who married Richard Ratcliff was my great x5 grandmother.
If I have got this line right, her father (my great x6 grandfather) was Matthew Timberlake (1726 - 1803) who married Elizabeth Saunders.
His father (my great x7 grandfather) was Matthew Timberlake (1705 - 1768) who married Mary Golder.
His father (my great x8 grandfather) was John Timberlake (1656 - 1729) who married Mary Lewin.
I am comfortable with all of those; but beyond that it gets a bit tentative, and this is where I'd love to see what others researching the Timberlake line have got.
I THINK that John Timberlake's father (my great x9 grandfather?) may have been Thomas Timberlake (1634 - ?); that HIS father (my great x10 grandfather?) may have been Thomas Timberlake (1603 - ?) who married Ann Kinges; and that HIS father (my great x11 grandfather?) may have been John Timberlake (c. 1570 - ?), whose wife was called Elizabeth according to the children's baptism records, but I've not found a marriage so I don't know her maiden name.
If you're back to the 1480s it sounds as though you may have three or even four more generations, and that you may be able to help me firm up on those tentative attributions.
I'd love to hear from you.
(And yeah - I know Howard's not posted in 5 years; but either he, or others with a marker on this post, might get an e-mail as a result of my posting this - and others who turn up this thread as a result of an internet search will now know of my interest in the family line
