« on: Sunday 12 July 09 08:26 BST (UK) »
Henry Howard Drummond DFM AFC (Retired Wing Commander) died Sep Quarter 1982 aged 72. His death is recorded at Epping Vol 9 Page 2174. Is it possible to find any information about Henry, such as an obituary or any family from these details?

Thanks

aberdein,
The local papers probably carried a death /funeral notice which would give you names of family members and place of burial.
The papers also may have carried an obit or article on him.
Why not ask the Local Studies Library nearest to Epping if they have the papers archived and would look this up for you and email the material?

Hi,

W/C Henry Howard Drummond, AFC, DFM, was a close friend of my family and a major influence on my early life. I am the owner of much memorabilia from Harry's RAF career, including some obituaries, and I was also privileged to be a member of the guard of honour at his funeral.

I would be fascinated to learn of your connection to Harry.

Regards,

Peter

Hi Peter and a warm welcome to Rootschat. I have been researching my family history for a lot of years now and eventually I got around to looking at Peveline Jane Carruthers who married John Drummond. She was my grandmothers sister and Henry`s mother. Henry was my mothers cousin. I remembered Henry being in the RAF and I discovered his pilots licence on Google. From this some kind people on RC started me looking at his wartime career. I then got so interested that I engaged a professional researcher at Kew to find out whatever he could. However I know nothing at all about Henry`s family other than his son Frank being named on his death certificate. I would like to know about Henry`s family, also if you knw anything about his sister Dorothy who married Arthur Barton. I know his brother Frank settled in Tasmania. I must point out that information on living relatives isn`t allowed but after you have made three posts we could correspond by Personal Messages if you wished. Delighted to hear from you
Regards

Hi aberdein,

I really need to correspond with you by e-mail, so will get my three posts in asap!

I am a long time genealogist and keen military historian. I probably know more about Harry's wartime career than anybody, including research time spent at Kew... if only I had been in contact with you earlier, I could have saved you from splashing out your hard-earned cash! I'll be amazed if your researcher found out anything that I didn't know, but am certainly interested to see what they did locate at TNA.

Bye for now,

Peter

Hello - HH Drummond was my grandfather and I am also currently researching our family tree - perhaps we can link up and share info? I've got a fair amount of information but still along way to go. I knew about our Tasmania connections but it would be good to get some more details.
