HELP ME PLEASE WILLIAM EARNSHAW b c1814
« on: Wednesday 15 July 09 07:07 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

Can someone help me please, I have been going around in circles for weeks. ??? ??? ???

I am trying to find the parents of William Earnshaw born 1814 Halifax.  I know his father is called John as I have Williams marriage certificate and details on this are as follows:

10 March 1839 Parish Church of Birstall

William Earnshaw of full age bachelor, Ropemaker, Residence Tong, father John Earnshaw, Whitesmith

married

Mary Gomersal, spinster, residence Gildersome, father William Gomersall, clothier

Witnesses George Bromley & Joseph Woodcock

On the 1851 & 1861 census his birthplace is listed as Gomersall?  On the IGU the only birth I can find where the fathers name is John is Halifax?

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks

Amanda

Hi
I am sure you are aware that the IGI is not full coverage by any means so he could have been baptised in another parish that is not on it.   www.genuki.org.uk is worth a look as it gives local churches and often indicates if ther are transcription indexes available.   Have you searched the 1841 census to see if you can find John?
regards
Andrea

Hi Amanda
Lots of Earnshaws and Gomersalls on the Calverley web site.
www.calverley.info/
There is also a transcription of the Tong 1821 census on there, I had a quick look but didn't spot John.
