James Roxburgh, Glasgow and Merseyside
« on: Wednesday 15 July 09 19:28 BST (UK) »
James Roxburgh was born in Glasgow in 1906 to William Roxburgh and Martha Livingston; he died (according to Ancestry) in Sefton, Merseyside in 1984. His brother, William Roxburgh, remained in Scotland.

I am aware of the minister of Southport, The Right Reverend James William Roxburgh (1921 - 2007); he became a bishop.

Does anyone know if they are any relation?

I posted in the Lancashire section to no avail.

Thanks,

Stuart

edited cause I got my Lanarkshire and Lancashire muddled!

Hi Stuart

According to The Times Obit, James W Roxburgh was born in Leeds, of Scottish descendent. Not sure how this fits with the family of Roxburghs that you are trying to connect him with.

Hi Stuart,

His birth entry gives his mother's maiden name as McKellar. There's two marriages in Scotland for these names, but most likely his parents were James Thomas Roxburgh and Margaret McKellar who married 1920 in Milton district, Glasgow.

Hi Monica,

It was your post (and obviously the McKellar name being very Scottish) that led me to search SP again. ;D Everything leads back to Scotland.

Nice road to travel Hume  :)

I wonder if this is James Thomas in 1901:

William Roxburgh 44, cotton yarn warper b. Pollockshaws, Renfrewshire
Maggie Roxburgh 38, b. Coatbridge
Maggie Roxburgh 18
James T Roxburgh 16 b. b. Pollockshaws, Renfrewshire
Agness Roxburgh 14
Jessie Roxburgh 10
Elizabeth Roxburgh 8
Jeanie Roxburgh 4
Helen Roxburgh 1

Address: 536 Baltic St, Glasgow Bridgeton

Stuart, hopefully with your research you may be able to identify his family.

Hi to all looking for info on James

Roxburgh, he was related to my father Gavin Slater I think he was a cousin. My paternal grandmother was Janet Slater need McKellar the McKellar family came from Campbelltown Argyll with some very interesting ancestors in Canada and the states I think  ::)
