Winifred Emily EDWARDS (Completed)

I post in the hope that a descendant of Winifred Emily EDWARDS may get in touch.
Winifred was born 1902 in Kent and emigrated to Canada in 1920. She married Ernest MYERS MASON in Toronto 5 Jun 1922 but may have used either the MYERS or MASON name after marriage.
They had two children Douglas and Dorothy.

Are you sure they stayed in the Toronto area?  You might try Ask a Librarian at the Toronto library to search the Toronto directories for Ernest.  They are very helpful and will do 2 searches per email request.  http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/ask_index.jsp

You can search here for possible matches in obituaries for either the parents or children.  You have to wait to receive the requested obituaries but there might be a match.  Just briefly looking
there are possibilities for Dorothy (nee Mason) Johnston of Palmerston, Ont. and Douglas Cameron Mason London, Ont. 2006.  I didn't flip through many records.

Hello Debbie,  Many thanks for your reply and links. Pretty sure they remained in Toronto as I have a photo
of Susan daugter of Douglas taken in May 1978 at their home. On the back "she was going to a formal Dinner/Dance at one of the big hotels down town Toronto, her date for the evening was an Honour Graduate from school" Are there any links to graduation pupils in 1978.
I am pretty certain that Margaret was the wife of Douglas and the other children were Nancy and Michael. I am sure my best option is to concentrate on this family.

Hello Frenchie,

I have found a obituary for Lois Elizabeth Mason wife of late Ernest Mason passed away Dec 13,1998 in her 99 year.

She is survived by son  (*)J D M  and wife M,  Markham, Ont. and daughter D and husband R M Oshawa, Ont. Canada 411 has a active listing for both of the children. Obit indicates she had  6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

She is buried at Prospect Cemetery . Cemetery records indicate she was born Dover, England

Hello Lilybell,  Many thanks for your information which to be correct would have meant that Ernest divorced Winifred. I will try to ascertain whether there was a divorce and then follow this lead.

Hello Frenchie,

I received a e mail from Prospect Cemetery this morning and this is what they provided .

Winifred Emily Mason died age 43 Feb.8,1946
Ernest Myers Mason died age 76 Nov. 11 1974
Lois Elizabeth Mason died age 98  Dec 13 1998

I think because Winifred died young that perhaps Ernest married again to Lois Elizabeth
All three are buried Sec 23 Lot 902

I checked for obituaries for Winifred and Ernest on the Toronto Star Pages of the Past but found nothing.

Hello again Frenchie,

I went back and had another look for obituaries for Winifred and Ernest and this time I found them.

According to info from the obituaries Ernest remarried after Winifred passed away, Married Lois Houlston hope I spelled her name right.
