Hi
I had the same problem with Thomas Harland and his wife Jane, living in Chester le Street, in the late 18th and early 19th Century. I could only begin to sort it out when Family search put the Durham Bishops' transcripts on line. I then discovered three Harland families with parents called Thomas and Jane. They could be distinguished by slight address differences (i.e. Lumley/Greater Lumley)), occupation and fortunately in my line by the addition of the qualifier, Jnr. During the twenty years that were of interest there were changes in the style of recording: the minimum for baptisms gave the date of baptism, the name of the child, the father and the mother's forename, a location and the father's occupation; the most prolific gave as well as all the previous data, the number of the child in the family, the origins of the father and the wife's maiden name together with the name and origins of her father. I was quite lucky to get this level of information - in the parish of Heighington, where I was trying to check the Heaviside family I found that in some years the baptisms in the Bishops' transcripts only listed the child's name! If and when I ever get to the Durham Record Office I shall have to look at the original Heighington records to see if they are as brief as the Bishops' transcripts.
So, to solve your problem, you will have to get access to the original parish records and hope that the detail matches at least the Chester le Street minimum.
All the best
