Too manyWm & Mary HALLs at St Phillip's

HELP
My 3 x gt grandparents are proving a problem
William Hall born 1798 supposedly in Admaston Shropshire and his wife Mary Smith born 1798 Preston on the Weald Moors Shropshire, married in 1824 St Philips Birmingham
In 1841 he was a cow keeper
In 1851 & 1861 he was a milkman

In 1841 they had Mary,William,Thomas & Caroline with them
In 1851 Mary A,Thomas & Caroline
1861 Thomas and A son William aged 11 who I assume was a grandson

So far so good but now come the complications
St Phillips baptisms have in addition to the children from the censuses
Elizabeth, Matthew and Eliza all baptised before the marriage in 1824 and not on the censuses.
There is also a Charles Henry bap to a William and Mary in St Philips in 1843 born 1842 he is not on the 1851 census..was this because he would have been at the top of the next page of the census and simply got missed out?
In 1861 a Charles Henry the right age, a solid tube drawer is married to a Mary Ann
Also in 1861 a Charles b 1843 a silver polisher is with his parents William and Mary A

My problem is Were there three William and Mary Hall s having children baptised in St Phillips?

How can I sort them out?
Has any one access to St Phillips registers and able to see if the baptism entries give more clues (possibly father's occupation or an indication of the address?  than the IGI entries?

I would welcome any help with sorting this family out Many thanks Trees.

Have you looked for deaths for these?  Unfortunately infant mortality rates were high then.

Hi

I had the same problem with Thomas Harland and his wife Jane, living in Chester le Street, in the late 18th and early 19th Century.  I could only begin to sort it out when Family search put the Durham Bishops' transcripts on line.  I then discovered three Harland families with parents called Thomas and Jane.  They could be distinguished by slight address differences (i.e. Lumley/Greater Lumley)), occupation and fortunately in my line by the addition of the qualifier, Jnr.  During the twenty years that were of interest there were changes in the style of recording: the minimum for baptisms gave the date of baptism, the name of the child, the father and the mother's forename, a location and the father's occupation; the most prolific gave as well as all the previous data, the number of the child in the family, the origins of the father and the wife's maiden name together with the name and origins of her father.  I was quite lucky to get this level of information - in the parish of Heighington, where I was trying to check the Heaviside family I found that in some years the baptisms in the Bishops' transcripts only listed the child's name!  If and when I ever get to the Durham Record Office I shall have to look at the original Heighington records to see if they are as brief as the Bishops' transcripts.

So, to solve your problem, you will have to get access to the original parish records and hope that the detail matches at least the Chester le Street minimum.

All the best

Many thanks for the encouragement Gobbo I think St Phillips was a very busy parish I do hope they had time to record the extra pieces of information  The Bishops transcripts will be a useful check too. Does any one know where the St Philips records are kept please are they in Warwick RO I need to get to see the originals to try to sort the families out.

Hi Trees

I have been a bit spoilt because my main research is in Durham and Northumberland where some kind souls have worked to enter quite clear data about the church records on Genuki.  The Genuki records for Warickshire and Shropshire seem a lot less clear and I cannot tell from them where we should go to find the Registers for St Philips, Birmingham.
