Hi, Everyone,
Was wondering whether there are any Rootschatters local to Claypole St Peter churchyard, and could perhaps have a look for me and see whether there are any surviving headstones for the BIRCH family.
According to the NBI there should be a Maria BIRCH buried 07-12-1846 aged 34, and perhaps three of her children who died in infancy between 1834 and 1841.
And also a Henry BIRCH buried 23-01-1866 aged 58, and his second wife Ann buried 06-01-1893 aged 68.
Wishful thinking that such early graves might still be there, or indeed legible...
Very best wishes, keith

Hi Keith,

I'm not near to Claypole but I do go to the Lincoln Archive from time to time and they have an index of Monumental Inscriptions. Would you like me to look at that for your Birch family?

Hi, Janeida,
That really is a very generous offer to make on my behalf, but I do have a short list of burials off the NBI for the BIRCH family - albeit without the extra detail that the MI's held by the Lincs Record Office might have.  I was simply wondering whether there were any legible headstones in the churchyard in Claypole that I might stumble over if I paid a visit in the not too distant future to a long lost cousin who lives nearby.  Would be a nice diversion, with perhaps a photograph or two taken.
But many thanks, keith

Keith,

I'm not sure you understood my point. The list of MIs would at least give you some idea whether or not there were ever any legible gravestones for the Birch family.  I wouldn't go to Lincoln especially but I do have some wills that I need to look at soon and I'm going to look at the MIS for someone else so it will be no trouble to look for your family too.

Janeada,
Then that would be very good if you could have a quick look for me next time you go.  Getting a bit late here now, so I'll PM you tomorrow with the individuals I'm looking for, if that's O.K
Regards, keith

Only just joined rootschat and found your request for information on Arthur CS Birch.

Arthur CS Birch was my great uncle.

Having visited Claypole a few years ago, I can confirm that most of the headstones of the Birch family are there and are legible.

The main exeption being those of Charles and his wife Frances and their children.

Hi, Teeps33, and welcome to Rootschat!
When I started doing a little research on the BIRCH family I mentioned that it was for the landlord of a village pub not far from where I live.  It's been an interesting journey back from the coalmining in the Bulwell area of Nottingham to the farming in Lincolnshire and Leicestershire.  I'll tell him that a relative of his has contacted me on this thread, and will send you a personal message to exchange details...
Many thanks, keith

Thanks to Teeps33 and Janeida, who have both provided invaluable - and exciting - information,  this line of enquiry has  been completed extremely successfully!
So next time I'm up near Claypole I'll spend some time in the churchyard there and endeavour to take some photos for the record.
The MI's that Janeida so kindly provided give a wealth of new information on one generation in particular of the BIRCH family...and thanks to Teeps33, it looks as though two BIRCH not-too-distant relatives are now in contact with one another, so that's good too.
The wonder of Rootschat threads...
Regards, keith
