**COMPLETED** Census Lookup
« on: Friday 24 July 09 12:24 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Have posted before as I've been trying to find James JONES b1868/69/70/71 Aberdare, Glamorgan on 1901 & 1891 census still without any luck.

I have posted on Glamorgan board - to see if I can find his family together in Aberdare in 1891.

Listed below is all the info. I have on James JONES

1871 & 1881
living with parents Peter & Rachel JONES in Aberdare, Glamorgan

1908
was a widower age 38 when he married 2nd time, witnesses to his marriage living Monmouth in 1901, I'm presuming that James probably living in Monmouth with his 1st wife (no children that I'm aware of) :-\

James' mother Rachel nee DAVIES (father David) was born 1832 Tredegar/Risca Monmouth

1911
living in Aberbargoed with 2nd wife their 2 children

Any help welcomed - thank you  :)

Hi Ladyhawk

This could be your James Jones

Sept Q 1899 James Jones m Grace Louisa Martin (Pontypridd)

1901 Census - 25 Stanley Street Eglwysilan Glamorgan
Charles MARTIN - Head 50
Jane MARTIN - wife 47
Matilda MARTIN - daughter 20
Alfred Charles MARTIN - son 10
George BROWN - son-in-law 26
Lizie BROWN - daughter 24
Elizabeth Jane BROWN - g-daughter 2
JAMES JONES - son-in-law 30 (coal miner born Aberdare)
Louisa JONES - daughter 22

June Q 1903 Death Louisa Jones 24 Cardiff district (includes Eglwysilan)

I've only looked at 1901 so far, let me know if you think this could be the one.

I know what you're going through with Jones family research, my Jones family members were all in the mining industry and moved all over the place. They were in Aberdare in the 1860's, maybe they knew your lot!

All the best, Sally

Hi Sally,

This looks like a very strong possibility of being the right James JONES.

Marriage for James JONES to Grace Louisa MARTIN Sep q 1899 Pontypridd, so the only way to be completely sure is to order this and hope that James' father is named as Peter JONES.

Great start, thank you so much for your time & help

Ladyhawk  :)

Hi Sally,

Can you tell me if Charles was born in Cornwall?

I have found an entry on 1881 c living 31 Union Street, Bedwelty Monmouth there's no Louisa or Grace Louisa, don't know if this is the right one  :-\

Charles MARTAIN 27 Penzance coal miner
Jane                    24 Tredegar, Monmouth
David John            4  Tredegar
Elizabeth               2  Tredegar

Do you have the family on 1891 census please ?

Hi Ladyhawk

You have the correct family in 1881, Charles was born in Cornwall. Grace Louisa wasn't there as she wasn't born or at least registered until June Q 1882 Tredegar (Bedwelty district) according to the BDMs.

1891 Census - 199 15th Row Sirhowy Tredegar Mon

Charles Martin Head Mar 40 Coal Miner b Plymouth? Cornwall
Jane Martin Wife Mar 39 b Tedegar Mon
David J Martin Son 15 Coal Miner b Tredegar
Elizabeth Martin Dau 13 b Tredegar
Grace C? Martin Dau 11 b Tredegar
Matilda Martin Dau 9 b Tredegar
Alfred Charles Martin Son 2 months b Tredegar

I'm happy to look up any census for you, just give me details.

Sally

Sally,

Thank you for your kind offer - if possible would like to find out when Charles MARTIN's family moved from Cornwall ?

Have had a look on FreeCEN for Cornwall there's a few 1861 but not born Penzance nothing for Glamorgan  :-\

I was hoping I was going to see James JONES as a lodger with the Martins in 1891 - too much to hope for.

Thank you for taking the time to look - very much appreciated

Ladyhawk  :)

Hi, looks like the Martin family moved sometime between Charles 1849 - Alfred 1853 (no luck finding the family in Welsh or English 1851 census) Note the close naming trends in the different generations!

1861 Census - 123 James Street, Blaenavon
James Martin Head 30 Boiler Maker b Perranarworthal, Cornwall
Elizabeth Martin Wife 30 b ditto
Charles Martin son 12 Forge labourer b ditto
Alfred Martin son 7 b Newport, Mon
Grace Louisa Martin dau 1 b Blaenavon, Mon
Mary Renney lodger/servant 25 b Cardiff

1871 Census - Llanover, Mon
Chas Martin lodger unmarried 23 Miner b Cornwall (lodging with Richard Prichard 57 widower b Carmarthen)

Can't immediately locate the rest of the Martin family in the 1871 census, sorry.

Charles Martin m Jane Lloyd March Q 1878 Bedwelty district. Jane's mother Matilda Lloyd is living with them in the 1881 census.

Hope this is all useful

Sally
