Which regiment?

Hi,
does anyone know how to find out what regiment my grandad was in.
He was from Stocksbridge Yorkshire and died when my mum was young.My mum seems to think he was involved in the D Day landings and Dunkirk.
My Grandma is dead now and I did nt get the chance to ask these questions when she was alive.

Hi,
His name was Samuel Dransfield, born 1907 , High Green, Ecclesfield, Yorkshire. When he married in 1937 he was Steel Clipper and lived in Stocksbridge Sheffield.. Mum seems to think he went into the army before the 2nd World War started. I have 2 medals for him, which are the 39-45 Star and the 39-45 war medal. There was a fire and most of photos of him were burnt,but mum remembers a photo of him on a horse and she thinks it was Palestine but not sure..

This may be a soft question, but are there any names/numbers etc stamped on the medals?

Hi,
there is nothing on the medals I have looked. Would have been a big help wouldn't it..
I ll keep asking the questions I should find out eventually.

No such thing as a soft question, but as a general rule of thumb, medals in WW2 (campaign anyway) were issued unnamed. Some were inscribed by the recipients, and only honours and awards were inscribed
