Williams (hee hee)
« on: Sunday 26 July 09 17:24 BST (UK) »
Please can someone help with the 1851 census.
I am trying to find my great gran, Ann Williams and her parents.
I have her original marriage cert: shows father as William Williams of Trynant, Mynyddislwyn.
Groom was Lewis Jones also of Trynant.
No ages shown but date of marriage was 29th Sept 1855 at Beulah Chapel.
I think I may have found them in 1841: HO107 750 13/9 p10 showing Ann to be born 1837.

Any help much appreciated,
Hencarrai

Any good?

HO 107/2453/355/45  Mynyddyslwyn

William Williams 34 Coal miner born Hanerty Carmarthen
Frances Williams 27
Ann Williams       14
Margaret Williams 10
David Williams 7 mths
Catherine Philips 56 mother in law born Fishguard

plus 4 lodgers

Good one if it is as it gives you Frances's maiden name  :D

Hi Jan,
thanks for quick reply.
I'll have a look at your suggestion, but 1841 census that I'm favouring (which could be wrong trail of course) shows Anns' mother as Margaret.
Kind regards,
Hencarrai

Hi

Does the marriage certificate give her father's occupation as that could help rule out the one I found in 1851?

Another thought, there is a big gap between the last two children, Ann's mother could have died and he could have remarried  ;D Also just noticed, if Frances's age is correct she can't be Ann's mother - as she would only have been 13.

I'll look again and see if there are any more - not the easiest of names in Wales!!

Isn't a collier a coal miner?  :D

I'll see if I can find a death for a Margaret Williams and or a marriage for a William Williams to a Hanah in the right district between 1841 and 1851.

Jan,
I have just spoken with my cousin who has 'The Jones Family Bible'. Unfortunately there is not much in it, but it does have Ann Williams dob as 3rd March 1837. I guess that doesn't do much more than confirm her age, doesn't say where born etc.

Where did Hanah come from in your last post?

Cheers,
Hencarrai

Whoops - sorry. I was doing another look up at the same time and got the name mixed up, should have been Frances  :-[ :-[

I'd look into that census entry I gave you if I were you, as I said Hannah Frances can't have been Ann's mother, so may have been William's second wife. Perhaps Mary died after the birth of Margaret. Unfortunately with the DOB you have for Ann she probably wont be listed in the BMD as she was born just before they came in I think. That means you'll have to try finding her in the Parish Registers.
