James Middleton
« on: Sunday 26 July 09 19:50 BST (UK) »
Hi I am looking for any details regarding my g'g'g'g' great grandparents James and Elizabeth Middleton who lived in Gayton, James birth and death dates are 1763-1844 and Elizabeth's are 1771-1853 he was born in Gayton her in Brafield on the green. James and wife were included in the 1841 census and Elizabeth on the 1851.

Thats all i know i have a possible Stephen Middleton and Ann Satchell for James parents but this is from an old family tree which is full of holes.

Any information on the Middletons would be helpfull.

Thanks

Neil.

Hi Neil

Welcome to Rootschat.  :)

There is a child James baptised in Gayton in 1st Aug 1762
although his parents are Stephen and Sarah.

I will have a look at the N.M.I. and see if their is a marriage for the
above couple.

There does not seem to be a surviving headstone in the
Churchyard for James and Sarah.

Although a proable son,
James Middleton who died December 17th 1888, aged 81 years
and his wife Maria who died January 28th 1892, aged 73 years.

Neil

I wonder, do you think this could be James and Elizabeth's marriage,
only one on N.M.I. that is near to Brafield, and they only had to
reside in the village whilst banns were read.

Hi and thanks i think you have found James parents as Stephen and Sarah Baker i checked my old family tree passed down to me and done many years ago and it has Sarah Baker in small brackets (and very small writing).

My guess is that Sarah may have been Stephens first wife and mother to James and Ann Satchell a  second wife the dates are right for Stephens birth of 1762 and the first marriage dates.

James (James snr's grandson) and Maria Middleton (nee Reeve) are the only Middletons i have found to have a headstone and its in good condition with lots of scripture on it.

The Middletons and Reeves of Gayton were very close family's living in the same street on the 1841 census and marrying together down the generations my Great grandparents were 1st cousins and there mothers sisters!! i quess this was village life in the 18-19 century  :)

Many thanks again.

Hi and Thanks Sandy.

The possible marriage you found for James ans Elizabeth in 1787 seems a strong contender.

Thanks
Neil.
