At the risk of sounding "sexist", I wonder if a woman would have been involved in the manufacturing of pianos 100 years ago? . . . surely it was uncommon for women to learn skilled trades before WW1 ??

If it was a Piano (or any other sort of) Dealer, perhaps her job could have been in sales or office work?

Still can't think of a job title that fits though . . .  :-\

Moving away from pianos for a moment ............ if it was 'Plain Dealer', what would they be selling?  The original definition of a Cordwainer/Cordiner/Corviner/Corvisor was 'a leather worker using high quality Spanish leather for things such as harness, gloves and riding boots'

Could she perhaps be employed to make leather gloves for sale by the Plain Dealer  :-\

Having spent ages looking for occupations with a connection to piano making, I now think that Maggie and Past Master might have hit on a much more sensible reading - Plain Dealer.

Given her father's occupation as Clicker, something in the shoe/leather industry makes so much more sense so I'm with you, Maggie, on Corvisor.

Thank you all so much for your help. I did originally think it said Plain Dealer but this didn't seem to make any sense. Perhaps the piano industry and the  handwritten code was misleading and put there by someone who thought it said piano and not plain dealer. The Corvisor seems much more feasible.

What about that dotted 'i' though?.... no 'i' in Canvasser, unless it could be a spelling error  :-\
