Joseph Thackwell - a shipwright ( he worked in cardiff and may well not be on the census that evening) His family were:

Mary Thackwell - wife
Children:
Jane Elizabeth  b 1829
Hannah??        b 1830
George John     b 1839     
Benjamin Joseph  b 1840

The last 2 were christened in Garway in 1841 however I think were born in Newport Monmouth.

You're right about Joseph not being at home, but it looks like the preceding household could be his parents?

I'm truly grateful to you ( especially as you searched for more of them in that parish )   - this family moved around so much they are a right pain to keep pinned down. The information you gave is my family of THACKWELL's. Excited about the older Thackwell's too - more research to go on .

I have details of my ancestor Joseph Thackwell's (born 1809) father and grandfather, if this is any help, they were given to me by a descendant of Benjamin Joseph, and she got them through the Gwent  family history society.

Know this is an old thread but have recently come across the Thackwell name.

Would be interested in what information you have Lisa, from Gwent family history society.  My x3 great grandmother was Elizabeth Thackwell I believe sister to Joseph, father of Benjamin Joseph. - The parents of both were Joseph & Hannah Thackwell/Thackway.

Hi Cas, youre right, that was an old thread
Will try to dig out what Ive got, but its going to take me a while I think, as I have no idea where it all is at the moment.
But I promise to have a search  and Ill let you know when I come up with anything. Unfortunately, this is the one tree I havent properly recorded as yet, as because my husband was adopted, Ive been concentrating on his blood family, and the Thackwells are his adoptive family. I really must do this soon.

No problem, thank you for the reply. I think I have most of it, was just interested what info from Gwent FHS.

Also check the topic links given above. I believe Joseph was born 1804, also has the marriage of Joseph & Mary Hall.  Same church as my x3 great grandparents William Thomas & Elizabeth Thackwell married.

When time would be good to know info from Gwent FHS, concerning the Thackwell name, thanks
