George Hawkins of Redbourne- Bankrupt August 1791

Help!!!!

I am somehow connected to this George, as an ancestor- Henry Mottlee was entitled to an inheritance from the estate of George Hawkins of 1791- which was claimed in 1891.

According to the London GAzette articles- George Hawkins was declared bankrupt circa August 1791.  He was a Mercer and Draper, formerly of Redbourne, Hertford.

There appears to have been a lot of difficulty with his estate, as disputes were still being recorded in the Gazette in 1795, and ongoing meetings being called by the Chancery.  And if my story is correct, it was not resolved until nearly 100 years later!

So I am looking for ANY information on George Hawkins of Redbourne Hertford in order to try to work out the connection with my family- can anyone help with info on George please??

Hi Kylie,

Good luck on finding your ancestor, but you might want to repost this on the Hertfordshire board (or ask a moderator to move it); unfortunately you ended up in Herefordshire!

All the best,

Spider
