India- Henry Mottlee...an apocathery?
« on: Friday 31 July 09 10:37 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am looking for information on a Henry Mottlee, who I believe spent time in India, possibly working as an apocathery.

Henry was born in London in 1838, appears on the London census in 1851 with his widowed mother, and then disappears from records until 1873 when he marries.

It is my suspicion that it is between 1851 and 1873 that Henry spent his time in India, although another possability is between the years of 1876-1882, as there is a gap in the births of his children over these years.

I have tried the FIBIS website records with no luck- can anyone help with ANY other options for tracing him and his time in India. I am completely and utterly stuck.

What was his address when he married in 1873, also his occupation and who witnessed that marriage? Are there any other records which list him as a apothecary (that might, eg, say where he trained?)

Address of Henry Mottlee when he married was 'S.Mark' Kennington or Kensington (hard to tell).

His occupation is Stationer.

His occupation for the births of all his other children is Stationer, Printer or Shoemaker.

But on his death certificate in Australia in 1921- his occupation is listed by his son as Medical Specialist!

Havn't found any evidence of him being a Doctor, except in 1906 he was contacted by the local health board in Sydney Australia for advice on plauge management- the letter states he is being contacted, having worked for the government in India as a plague specialist.

Help!!
