northumberland fusiliers
« on: Tuesday 04 August 09 21:03 BST (UK) »
Hello guys,

I wonder if anyone would be able to help me as I am ashamed to say I know very little about - a. my grandad and b. the second world war.
However I am trying to solve both of these problems.

I have found that my grandad was John Thomas Walker no. 4263951 and was born december 1906.
He served in the army as a corporal during WW2 in the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers.
I also know he served in Burma.

I wonder if anyone would be able to help me find out any more details, eg: what section of the regiment he served in and where else he went?

He died when I was very young and unfortunately so has my dad (who would have been his next of kin) so am unable to ask anyone in the family! so any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Jacqueline

You can, if now the nearest next of kin, apply for his records from the Veterans Agency....

http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/service_records.html

The Northumberland Fusiliers did not become "Royal" until after WW2...And I'm aftraid I can find no trace of them on the Orbat for Burma in WW2...

Have you his medals or something? Perhaps he was with a different unit in Burma??
One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

Hello,

I've seen some photos of his medals

He had the Burma star, the 1939-1945 star, the second world war medal?, the defence medal, and the dunkirk medal.

He has other children who are still alive (with whom I have no contact) so I wouldn't be next of kin

I'll keep looking though!

cheers
Jacqueline
