Thomas and Emma Faulkner Colchester Census look up 1901/11
« on: Saturday 08 August 09 11:30 BST (UK) »
I am currently helping a friend get started on her quest to trace her family back to her Irish roots....so.....could someone help her by locating her grandfather and great grandfather on the 1901 and maybe 1911 Census. Details of known family are as follows.

Thomas Faulkner(GGF) married Emma James. Reg Colchester Dec Qtr 1900.
Son James Patrick Faulkner(GF)  Reg Colchester Sep Qtr 1901.

Later connections to the Bradford area.

Early anecdotal evidence says Thomas born 1875 Bradford.

Particular interested in when and where Thomas was born.

Many Thanks

Gordon

the only Thomas Faulkner was a Private in the Army in Colchester Garrison

RG13/1707; Folio: 121; Page: 12

he was aged 22, and born Wigan ... but Marital status given as Single ....

might have to spread the net a bit    ;)

Hi Gordon

*Looks like the same fellow, Past Master  ;D I guess the army officer making the 1901 lists wasn't up to speed on Thomas' marital status !*

He was born Wigan Lancashire. He has a Military record.
On the 22 May 1898, he attested his age as 20 yrs and 2 months (for Short Service in the Royal Warwickshires)
He was already serving in the 3/West Riding Regiment at the time.
His father was Patrick FAULKNER, seems like 3 address' for father but the latest was Bradford, Yorkshire (not sure of the exact date)
The record  contains detail of his marriage to:
Emma JAMES 15 Dec 1900, Colchester

Lots of good details on the fellow in the record (he was 5'. 5 &3/4, Blue eyes, Brown Hair)

Will send you a PM of some of the finer parts of info on the record.

Cheers

Past Master, Ambley, and Catone, a real team effort.....  thought it woud be straight forward finding them on the 1901 Census living happily together in Colchester given that they had only married in 1900 and were still around Colchester when James was born late 1901.  Just shows you can take nothing for granted in this game.  You have however in a few minutes managed to unravel this little mystery. I suppose I should take stock now but would be good to work on finding Thomas and his father and mother in earlier Census's, while we are hot on the trail if anyone is enjoying this.

It is really helping someone who has a real desire to find her origins in Ireland.

I am really grateful to you and pleased for her.

I have to prepare for work in about an hour but will be back later this evening.

Just working thru the military record....noting he was apparently posted to Dublin in Nov 1901.
In 1910, he was signing up (and approved)  in Bradford for re-engagement to Army Reserves.

It also gives his religion as Roman Catholic.

Cheers  ;D
