Hi everyone
Could somebody tell me please what the name Royd means, is it a name of a person or is it another name for street or road etc?

Royd is an Anglian word meaning "cleared area of ground".

Hi Pauline

Thank you so much for your quick reply.  I live in Wales and have two friends staying who live within a stones throw of many Royds in and around Hebden and they have now learned something new this weekend.

Thank you very much Malcolm, now there will not be a pot washed or a shirt ironed because I have got to read all through your wonderful website.  It is fascinating!

In a hundred years time no-one will remember how many pots you washed or shirts you ironed, but they might be glad you did all this FH research.

Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it  :D :D

Well said my girl!  Hubby has ironed the pots and washed the shirts and will not do it for another 100 years.  So am sitting here in the beautiful sunshine tending to my family tree without the aid of the twiglets running around my ankles and a nice glass of the red stuff by my side!!  What a life!!
