John Skyrme 1807 Tiberton Hereford
« on: Sunday 09 August 09 20:12 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am trying to trace the ancestors of John Skyrme b. Tiberton 1807 married Anne Wilcox b. Preston-on-wye 1806. They had four children, Eliza 1837-1889, John 1842, Arthur 1843 and Sarah 1846.
The family lived in Blakemere. Eliza was my gr.gr.grandmother.
Looking for my gr. grandfather's name and history. grandfather was born out of wedlock named Albert Skyrme ,b. Ploughfield 09/01/1884 to
Olive Skyrme unmarried

I'm sure you have checked this one out, but just in case, have you looked at the christening on the IGI for John Skyrme ch 17 Feb 1811 in Eaton Bishop (not exactly a million miles away from Tybberton) to Richard and Mary Skyrme?

Hi Dudley,

I have sent you a message through your website (we're related!).

From what I have looked at to-date, I believe Olive had Albert out of wedlock, as you say. She then married Enoch Portman in 1893.

After that time, they had a daughter (Grace Evelyn Portman, born 1895 in Aberbeeg, Monmouthshire), before they moved to Church Gresley, Derbyshire (some time between 1895 and 1901).

In 1900 they had another baby - Percy Baden Portman.
The 1901 Census shows that Albert was living with them in Derbyshire. It seems that before that he worked in the Cory colliery (as per your website) and obviously returned to the Swansea area sometime after that.
While they were in Derbys., Enoch was employed as a Coal Miner, while Albert seems to have been employed in Ironmongery...

Finally, there is another record of an Albert Skyrme working as a collier in Pontypool in 1916 at the age of 28 (slightly out on the age, but records and dates seem to get confused)

Hope that helps...and is correct...??
I look forward to catching up with you.
Martin R
