Looking for Ports and Ship's name.
« on: Tuesday 01 March 05 21:22 GMT (UK) »
8) I am looking for data on my George Parker. He left Southampton, Hampshire, England in 1649 with Ann and Robert Parker. A Mr. Ralph Barlow 'transported' them in 1649. Ralph Barlow was in Elizabeth City County, Virginia.

What I have been searching for is the 'Departure port, arrival port and the Ships name.' This was at the time when the Commonwealth took over the Crown (1649).

I'm not sure if my Puritan, George Parker fled in fear of his life, or what.

Would or could anyone shed some light on these questions I have. I would certainly appreciate your responces. Thanks so much.

Howard Blair :)

Hi,

Try looking at Cyndi's List, there is a large section with links to various 'shipping' sites.

The Barlows were Parkers cousins. Have you seen this site because if you haven't it looks like its got your complete family history on it.

Hi Howard and welcome to RootsChat !  :)

I can't answer your question about passenger manifests I'm afraid .... and I couldn't find your family !  :-\  but I did find a database that maybe of interest ... The Civil War  was going on at that time and many fled England !.... it's not free and the same information can be had at the National Archives

TNA Reference
If you wish to search the source documents yourself at TNA, Kew, they are held in Class C2, subclass Chas1. The references here give only the piece and folio numbers (eg H77/40), since the Class & subclass is always the same. The full references would be, for example, C2/Chas1/H77/40.

Though it looks like you won't be able to check the Archives yourself ... and would need a researcher .... so either way  ......  it wouldn't be free ::) ::)

The parker family originated in itchen ferry to the east of southampton. most of the family have been seafarers for hundreds of years. many parkers are buried in peartree churchyard. there is a website dedicated to itchen ferry and the Diaper family ( another famous name)
