Hi Cookie

The other possibility is that her 2nd husband, had to wait 7years because he was married.

I note there were 2 Kenneth George FITCH's on the CWGC site. A gunner & a private.  The Private, although nationality given as Australian was actually born in Birmingham and enlisted in Victoria - did you look at him?

Cheers
Genni

Hi ozwendy

Many thanks for lots of ideas to consider.
Im wondering if thats the case about them waiting till they could afford a wedding and a house.  My grandad is still living in their house today so i think that could be a possiblity.

Thanks again

Hi ginnig

Yes i did see the other Kenneth on there but after checking the small amount of info i have on my Kenneth i ruled him out.
I have the year when they married and also she had a child by him also in that year.
I also agree with ozwendy as our family just never spoke of her 1st husband and my nana was quite secretive about her family.
I guess i`ll never really know.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply.

If you obtain a copy of the certificate of  marriage to the 2nd husband it may say he is the divorced husband of x in the section where it says batchelor spinster etc. which would give you a clue.  I certainly have a cert from this time frame where this is the case.

It should also say if he was, instead, widowed.  If either of these is the case you could then look for his first marriage.  If he was divorced, obtaining a copy (produced by the gro now, not an old one from the time), will give you the details of the divorce on the back, as the original record will have been annotated with the divorce details.

Thanks for that ec.

My grandad was 21 when he started going with my nana.
I dont think he was married before or a widow before he met my nana but i will certainly look into it just in case.

Many thanks
