Bowes Nawton N.Yorks.

I am looking for info on the Bowes family from Nawton,  Thomas born 1818? was a Tailor, want to know who his parents and siblings were, think he was born in Nawton not sure. Hope someone can help.

What information do you already have?    Census records for example.   Have you checked the local parishes around Nawton to see if there is a baptism?  When did he marry?   I suppose it is too much to hope that it was after 1837!

The 1841 census for Nawton HO107 1263/9/5 F8 p9 has a possible entry for Thomas with a father, also Thomas, who is a tailor.
Thomas Bowes 55 Tailor
Elizabeth 55
Edward 25
Elizabeth 20
Thomas 20
John 20 all born in county
Remember that in 1841 ages were rounded down to the nearest 5.
However this would really need confirming with some other proof as there is another Thomas, albeit younger, with father Henry, also in Nawton.

He is easy to find in 1881, which is free for you to search so should be a first port of call.  Married to Eliza.  Is that the right family?  I do prefer to work back from a known fact!

thanks for that information it fills a few gaps for me.  I was looking for Nawton not Kirkdale, This is a really helpful site and so many are willing to help, its great.

Nannawilk's information does say "of Nawton" and all fits with the census information I gave you.   As far as I can see there is no church in Nawton so they would have had to go to a nearby one.
