Someone dying in Russia in 1922
« on: Wednesday 12 August 09 10:21 BST (UK) »
Hi All.

I wonder if anyone can direct me or look up for me, to where
I would be looking for a death certificate for someone dying
in Russia due to hardship, yet buried in England.

T.I.A.

Hello Sandy,

If he is buried in England I would guess that he had returned from the Russian Campaign, therefore will be on the GRO home index.

Any idea of his age and when in 1922 he died?

How about Clarence E Garner, age 22.
Death registered June Qu, 1922
Northampton 3b 85

If it is a memorial, rather than his grave, then he will be on the Overseas Death Index. (FindMyPast I believe has it online)

Thanks Sue  :)

Sandy,

The Allies withdrew from Russia in 1920, (which may have overspilled into 1921), so it looks more probable that he was home.

Do we know who he served with?
May have a MIC as Brit war medals were issued for North Russia.

Hi All.

Thanks for the information listed.

Greatly appreciated.

Phil I thought he died overseas, yet it seems you have found him.  :)

I will get the death certificate in a while.

Thanks again all.

Sandy,

I don't think the MIC is for your man.

I think it is for Clarence William Garner, born Dec Qu. 1893, Barton-upon-Irwell Reg. District. He is an 8th Bn Lancs Fusiliers Territorial going by the service number

Your man is probably Clarence Edmund Garner, born June Qu. 1900, Northampton.

There are two C E Garner MICs; I'll have a look at them later.
