Can't find St Cath's death refs completed Thanks
« on: Friday 14 August 09 13:27 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find two St Cath's death refs so I can order the certificates.
I am trying to trace a couple. I have the following information

John Thomas born 1814
Wife Jane Thomas born 1821

I have them living in Pentyrch on the 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881.
I looked for them on the 1891 census but couldn't find them. When I looked at St Cath index (Free BMD)
I could not find a death to match their age or place of death. I hope/think that Pentyrch came under Cardiff district?

Any help in find them would be Wonderful. Thank you

I don't think you will find them.  National registration only started in 1837.  Before that it was only in Parish Registers.  Some of these have been transcribed but I think it's very patchy.

I suggest you change the title of this post to something like

Parish Register Lookup required

and also give as much information about the people concerned as you can.  Or close this thread and start again!

I've just read another post with a useful link to a web site about certificates - it might come in handy  :D :D

When I looked at St Cath index (Free BMD)

FreeBMD is organised by Registration District - and as you say, Pentyrch was included in the Cardiff Regn District until c1934.

So are you saying you cant see them - use the '@nnnn-nnn' option for a Death search - where the 'nnnn-nnnn' spans a few years around their known Birth Year - this will filter down a possibly large list (given the names involved)   ...

If however, you know that they will be recorded in St Cath's Parish registers, that will help link to a GRO index entry, which of course you need to order a Death Cert  :)
