First Marriage of Albert Edward Clark - COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 18 August 09 14:24 BST (UK) »
Hello
Would someone please help me find the first marriage of Albert Edward Clark? He was born 1895 in Colchester, and on his second marriage certificate, it states that he is the "divorced husband of E. Ossie (I hoenstly can't read what it says) Levene (once again, debatable). He got married for the second time in 1923, aged 28.
Any help appreciated !!!
:D

Hi again

If he was born in 1895 and remarried in 1923, his first marriage has to be between 1913 and 1921 I'd guess, but I can't see any Albert Clarks marrying anyone with a name close to Levene. I wonder if he could have married abroad?

Have you found any WW1 records for him as that might name his wife as next of kin?

No, hadn't thought of looking for that! Is there a website where I can search (other than Ancestry!) ?

Can you post part of the certificate with the first wife's name on it so that we can try to help with deciphering it?

Hi,

I wonder if this is him........Divorce records on TNA Catalogue:

J77/1906/9603  Appellant  Elsie Clark  Wife's petition for divorce    Respondent  Albert Edward Clark      (1922)

You can ask for quote for copying and posting to you; I recently got a set for under £10 and sent 1st class post!       Very interesting to read.   ;)

ooooh how did you find that?!
looks as if it could be right...only prob that he is albert rather than alfred, though i guess it could have been mistranscribed?!?!

divorce back then wasn't that common, was it?

My papers were from 1904; it was more common than I thought.
