where did they come from!!

my problem is, apart from charles lake, who is my grandad, i can find no records of this family. no marriage, death or birth records. my aunt has helped me a lot with my tree and as john lake is her grandfather i would love to be able to tell her something about him. word is that john commited suicide. he does,nt appear in 1911 so we assume sometime in between census records. she would love to know if indeed this is true. fingers crossed for any info you can give on the family. janes maiden name was either nichols or nicholson.
thankyou all
best wishes

it looks like Martha was born after the 1871 census maybe John & Jane were not married in the 1871 census  :-\
