HELP!!! How to get my emails onto new computer.COMPLETED

You will need the program Outlook to read you old mail on the new computer as they are two completely different programs.  If you have Microsoft Office on CD then you would have to install it on your new computer.

Apparently Thunderbird can read PST files so you may want to consider getting that instead of Outlook Express.

Hello downside

I `m still having problems I done everything you said to do and even went onto my bigpond email trouble shooting site that told me word for word what to do and that even gave me the server address[POP3 etc] but its giving me an error message every time I try to send and email. I first tried to send myself an email but no luck

This is the message it is giving me.

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mailbigpond.com', Server: 'mailbigpond.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10051, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

What am I doing wrong.

Shouldn't your email address be:

your.name@bigpond.net.au

In other words it should be .net as opposed to .com.

It is probably going to be a simple error so recheck your addresses.

Hi downside,

My bigpond email address has .com not .net.au on the end.
Why I because when I first set it up I knew nothing whatsever about email,computers and everything else.[still don`t know much as you can see ]
A friend help set it up and thats what I told her to put for my email address.[.com on the end]
When I upgraded to broadband a bigpond technition set up my email account through M.S Outlook [cost an arm and a leg  ]and only changed one number on my email address plus my password. He didn`t say I had to have .net.au. I do know that .com is mainly for a Business address.No I don`t have a business. I will try again with that email in the POP3 part and see how I go.

Hi Johngirl

There should be a fullstop between the mail and bigpond ie mail.bigpond.com

If you go to Outlook Express, then Tools and then Accounts. Now select the Mail tab and then the account you set up fpr bigpond, If you then select properties and then the Servers tab. Then you can correct both the inward and outward.

I did it finally whoopee.
I have my email account for Outlook Express up and running thanks to Andy,Downside and Jc26red.
Yes Andy bigpond needed that extra dot.
Now have the task of reading my many emails that flew into the inbox as soon as I got it sorted right
Thankyou so much for all your help.
I`m not going to worry to much about my old email folders. I will just manually put in my address`s for the people I mainly send emails too. Know most of them off by heart.
