Query marriage at St Leonards
« on: Friday 21 August 09 09:39 BST (UK) »
My 2x great grand parents John Latter Woodhams and Mary Ann Lewis married at St Marys St Leonard's on the 18th Oct 1836, my query is does the register entry give Mary Ann's fathers occupation?  One thing about Mary Ann that has me guessing is the fact she was born in Henley in Arden Warwickshire in 1812, her family were still there as tradesmen in 1851,so what could be the reason for her living so far from her home parish?
Thank you Dennis.

No father's name nor occupation prior in there to civil registration (1837).

Hi Dennis

On the Sussex Marriage Index, there is only 1 John Latter Woodhams,he married a Lucy Harrison.

16th Jan 1804 at St Clements,Hastings.

The marriage to Mary Ann is just John Woodhams

Hope this helps

Bit of a blow that, was living in hope I guess it all depends on the vicar, I have been researching a village in Norfolk where the vicar went beyond the call of duty and listed fathers occupations in the wedding entries, he even listed the parents of a 74 year old at the burial including the mothers maiden name, as regards the John Latter Woodhams who married Lucy Harrison he was my JLW's uncle.
Thank you for your time Dennis

Sounds like a "Dade register" was in use where you got lucky. They are not that common
