I am looking for background and family info about a grandfather of mine a John Willson b abt July 1811 in Alford Lincs died 30 Oct 1889 in Alford but buried at Hogsthorpe St Mary's church. He married a Jane Brackenbury in Wainfleet on 31st March 1834 and then lived in Hogsthorpe.
He was an Auctioneer and valuer in Alford from  about 1830 till his death, I am looking for any info about him or his ancestors as I have hit a brick wall

Hi brianz and welcome to Rootschat! :)

There was a John WILSON bap at Alford 9 July 1811, son of John and Eunice.  As your chap had a daughter called Eunice, this couple look a reasonable bet.

A John WILSON was buried at Alford 29 Sept 1822 aged 38.

I have found a marriage in Alford, 18 Dec 1828
Francis ASKEW (wid) to Eunice WILSON (wid)

Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Many thanks Geoff E
The baptism must be correct I found this one on the IGI but wanted proof from the parish registers. The John buried at Alford I do not think is mine as he is too early to be a son and my John died in 1889 and is buried at Hogsthorpe. The marriage is interesting though I will check that out, thanks again.

I was suspecting that the burial was the father of your John.

Thanks again Geoff E
I have found a marriage for John Willson Snr to a Eunice Tate in Nov 1805, as we have Tate as a second christian name amongst the children it appears to be correct. The death that you mention would seem to fit, the age means he was born abt 1790 but give or take a year or two it fits.
