Could someone tell me if he was born in Fife circa 1810?
He appears age 71 on the England 1881 census with wife Sarah and son James.
I think his mother was Elizabeth.  I don't know his father's first name.
I'm wanting to find Elizabeth's maiden name.

On Family Search the 1881 Census the family is located in St Osyth, Essex, England. Also on Family Search there is a Pedigree Resource file with a James Langlands, spouse Sarah Ladhams born abt 1820  also in St Osyth, Essex. PRF gives James birth as abt 1814  in Weeley, Essex. May be worth following up.

Hello Julie,

He's certainly fairly consistant on census records 1841 - 1891 as saying he was born at Scotland (except 1 KN and one St Osyth). Does his death cert not give his parents names?
