Remember Holy Myers?
« on: Saturday 29 August 09 16:40 BST (UK) »
My first post on RootsChat (just a couple of months ago) was to ask for help locating my gggrandmother Jane’s place of birth.  Variously listed as Holy Myers, Holy Miens & even Holly Mins, it turned out to be Holymier, near Kirkhaugh.

Jane was married to George Greenwell and during the search, it was suggested that Jane’s maiden name was Kirton and that she and her sister Sarah had married two brothers, George & Joseph Greenwell.

I followed up on both families and the circumstantial evidence just got stronger.  This morning the marriage certificates arrived and there they all were.   :D :D

Durham Register Office  4 December 1852

Joseph Greenwell age 29 married Sarah Kirton age 32
George Greenwell age 27 married Jane Kirton age 21

The ages are right    ;)
The fathers’ names & occupations are the same on both certificates    ;)
George & Joseph were witnesses for each other    ;)
The other witness is the same name on both certificates    ;)

Other than having a time-machine I don’t think I’m going to get any more ‘proof’ than this.  So now all the tenuous links I have found can be welded tight - and all because of RootsChatters.  :D

I would like to thank again everyone who helped, and particularly suzard who first spotted the marriage registrations.  Without you all it would have taken me a lot longer to get to this point - if I hadn’t fallen at the Holymire hurdle first. :'(
