Davies family Bonymaen Swansea
« on: Saturday 29 August 09 21:40 BST (UK) »
Hi

Being a bit hopeful here, but really having difficultly with the ever so common Davies surname!  Is there anyone on here who happens to be searching for Davies' from the Bonymaen/Pentrechwyth area of Swansea?  Particularly linked to James Edward Davies (born 1857) and his wife Elizabeth (Rees) born 1862 both in Llansamlet.

I have a list of their children but only information on their eldest Thomas who was my g.g.grandfather.  Can't see how I am going to find out about his brothers and sisters with there being so many Davies in Swansea to search though!

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Hi Nicola,

I lived in Bonymaen for 20 years - lots of Davies families there!  ;D

What is it you're looking for exactly? Is it anything I can look up on the electoral rolls or in the newspapers or in the cemeteries (if you know where they are buried) for you?

Hi Bev,

Thank you for replying.  I am trying to find out about Thomas' (my g.g. grandfathers) brothers and sisters.  I have only their names and years of death.  I would like to know if they married, if so to whom, when and where they died.  I know that Thomas and his wife are buried in Cwm Chapel, Bonymaen. Also I believe that there is another family grave there but I don't know whose.  The infromation I have is:
Thomas b. 1880
George  b. 1881
Catherine  b 1884
John       b.1886
Ann        b. 1888
James E  b. 1891
Robert    b. 1893
Rachel    b. 1895
Lizzie      b. 1899

As I have said before I am ok on Thomas know his wife and childrens names but would love to complete the picture for that generation with his brothers and sisters.

Many thanks for any help you can give.

I'll go and see whether I can find the grave(s) first - there might be some info on those if you're lucky.

You said you have the dates of death? In that case  I might be able to find death notices in the papers which would give family members names.

Let you know if I find the graves.

Further to above, have now found that George died Sept Qtr 1883.  So that is one less!

Sorry Nicola, I didn't have much luck in finding the graves. There are a few Davies graves but not of the right first name apart from one Thomas who died in 1960 aged 80 so that's a possible. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send it to you.

There are quite a few unmarked graves there and a section of the chapelyard is difficult to get to but I'm confident that between the 3 of us who searched we covered it all.
