robertson - Laird of Struan
« on: Thursday 03 September 09 05:28 BST (UK) »
The following death notice for my g-g-grandmother Euphemia Galbraith Affleck (1814-1900) who was married to Robert Robertson (1814-1869) appears to establish a connection with the Laird of Ctruan /Clan Donnachaidh
The 2 January 1901 death notice in the Melbourne (Australia) Age newspaper reads as follows:

ROBERTSON -On the 31st December at the residence of her son-in-law Mr John McNeil, " st Vincent" High Street, Northcote, Melbourne, Victoria. Euphemia Robertson nee Euphemia Affleck, eldest daughter of the late William Affleck of Ayr, Scotland and widow of the late Robert Robertson, grandson of the last Laird of Struan, Perthshire, Scotland of Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Kilmarnock, Scotland, aged 90 years.

Is anyone able to identify " the last Laird of Struan, Perthshire, Scotland of Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Kilmarnock, Scotland" grandfather of Robert Robertson.

Regards

This is repeated, although with less wording, in this mini- bio of their son, John Affleck Robertson. ( Mind you, it also says he was born in Cleveland Ohio, U.S. even though he was born Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland)
"great-grandson of the last Laird of Struan Castle, Inverness-shire, Scotland."

It also later refers to the "Struan-Robertson Homestead Association at North Blackwood"

Excerpt from an obit seems to differ from the wording you have...was Robert perhaps born in PEI or Nova Scotia?
".........Euphemia Robertson (nee Euphemia Affleck) eldest daughter of the late William Affleck, of Ayr, Scotland, and widow of the late Robert Struan Robertson of Prince Edward Island Nova Scotia and Kilmarnock Scotland aged 90 years"

It is in honor of Robert 'Riabhach' that his descendants took the name Robertson. James II also erected the clan lands into the Barony of Struan, which formerly took in extensive lands in Highland Perthshire, notably in Glen Errochty, the north and south banks of Loch Tay and the area surrounding Loch Rannoch. None of these lands are any longer in the possession of the clan.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clan_Donnachaidh
