What type of Engineer would this be.  This is my Great grand fathers occupation in 1881 Thanks

Can you give the census details so we can see the original? The (F M A)or (F Ma) could be an annotation by the census clerk extracting occupations.

It has Engrs Laborer over which the census clerk has written M for Manufaturing, Machines I don't think it is an F
