1871 there is this family -

Brithdir
George Wood head m 51 Lab in Ironworks Lancashire
mary wife 35 Ireland
Mary daughter 11 Nantyglo mon
Martha daughter 7 Pontlottyn Glam
William son 5 Dudley Staffs
RG10 5387 48 8

this could be the same family as in 1861 - although p.o.b. are very different???

Do you have any other information which may help locate them???

Hi
I have looked through my records for ED 4 and ED 5 and sorry to say there is not one person with the family name of Wood.  In saying that it doesn’t mean that there were not there for sadly the final 20 pages of the Enumeration District covering Brithdir Hamlet are totally missing, presumably lost for ever.  Maybe someone else will have better luck searching the other districts.

Best of luck with your research.

Is the surname Wood -- or Woods???????

The Wood family I have posted is the only family in Gelligaer dist in 1861/71

Hi Suz
I wonder could you say what district number did you find the Wood family.  Pontlottyn is  part of district 5, part of Brithdir Hamlet, maybe I have more than the 'official 20 pages' missing ???

Hi Suzard,

I was looking at Mary WOOD b1860 as I haven't been able to trace Mary as a WOODS b1860 Glamorgan, Cardiff on the 1871 census or locate a birth record with  father named William WOODS.

Posted many months ago had a reply for a Mary A WOOD/S b1860 which looked to be a strong condender but I'm not 100% convinced.

As Mary married in 1880 her age varies on censuses 1881 to 1911 from 1856 - 1861 although birth Glamorgan, Cardiff does appear to be consistent.

I was hoping that was her 1871c. I have no other info. on the family other than father's name William occ. mariner he was deceased at time of marriage in Jan. 1880.

I'll keep trying  :)

I've found a death entry for a

William WOODS age 56 (b1818) Jun q 1874 Cardiff - I wonder if this his him  :-\

I doubt whether this is the William WOODS I'm looking for as I've found a

1851c transcript HO 107 / 2455 Cardiff, St. John
William Woods b1819  Colchester occ. PLUMBER (master) not MARINER married
to Ann Woods b1817

1871c transcript RG10/5357/F?
William Woods W 53 b1818 Plumer & Master Gt Essese Glamorganshire
5 Working Street Cardiff Glamorgan

I have however found these Wm. WOODS occ. MARINER which maybe worth me looking at as I've nothing else about Mary WOOD/S father to go on other that what was entered on her marriage certificate (Jan. 1880) that her father named as William WOODS (deceased) Mariner.

1851c transcripts

HO 107 / 1777
William WOODS mariner b1822 Essex (posted help Essex board)

HO 107 / 1880 East Stonehouse
William WOODS mariner aged 46 ? b1805 ...?bridge married Ann aged 25

RG9 /4036/~F65
William Woods 76 b1785 Retired Ship Master Yarmouth Norfolk
2 Landour Square American Hotel Cardiff Glamorgan
(He would be too old to be Mary's father but maybe g/f?)
