Louise

You might find something in the local newspapers with regard to soldiers being taken as prisoners.  Be mindful that the news might not leak out when he first went missing, so you might  have to search over a wide period.

Other than that the National Archives at Kew have some POW interviews, but no guarantees as they are limited in number.
Reid: Nicol: Peterhead and Aberdeen
McDonald: Greig: Milne: Aberdeenshire
Moreland: Lanarkshire, Whitehaven in Cumbria and Ireland

1916? Was he captured at Kut? Mesopotamia? Three books that would be of interest that cover what it was like being a POW of the Turks:

OTHER RANKS OF KUT by P. W. Long MM

SECRETS OF A KUTTITE by Captain E. O. Mousley

OFFICIAL HISTORY OF THE GREAT WAR. THE CAMPAIGN IN MESOPOTAMIA 1914-1918. VOLUME II

All 3 are available from:

Hi Louise

You will think I am stalking you as this is the 3rd Family Research site i have found you on and send you messages on each one to make sure I got connected with you.
James McCrea and Rebecca Smyth were my Great Grandparents and their son John was my Grandfather.  He was a brother of your Great Grandfather.

I have quite a lot of information on the family and would like to share it with you.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Regards

Evelyn ::)
