Dinsmore of Aghadowey
« on: Sunday 06 September 09 21:25 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone,
I'm trying to locate the family of Margaret Dinsmore from the Aghadowey area. From the little I know her father was called William and her mother was possibly a Martha Pollock. It's possible Margaret had sisters called Mary and Martha. Can anyone tell me what churchs are in the area?

Regards,
Brncam

Hello Aghadowey,
I think Margaret was born in and around 1863, the other dates I'd just be guessing at. I'm not sure about the townland either but it is most likely she was a Protestant.
Sorry I haven't got much to go on.

Regards,

You already had a thread looking for information on these Dinsmores-

Otto found Margaret's marriage (1884) in Scotland which gave her parents as William Dinsmore and Martha Pollock. Since Margaret was 22 years old at the time she was born before civil registration of births but I did find some other children of William Dinsmore and Martha Pollock for you-
1. Mary born 31 July 1864 Aghadowey dist.
2. Martha born 9 Mar.1867 Aghadowey dist.
3. William born 19 Jan.1871 Co. Derry

There are several William Dinsmores in Griffith's Valuation (c1859)-
Gortincoolhill, Aghadowey Parish
Camus Macosquin Glebe, Macosquin Parish
Macosquin, Macosquin Parish

However, there is no way to know if any of these are your William.

Thanks Aghadowey,
I do remember posting before but I have never been able to pick up the trail. I have left it a while before trying again.

If you order the marriage certificate you should get residences of Martha and William at the time of their marriage and their fathers' names and occupations.

I checked on Emerald Ancestors subscription database and found the 1853 marriage for Martha Pollock, but it was to William DAVIDSON according to their index (mistranscribed?).  If it is the right marriage, it took place in Macosquin Church of Ireland on 17 March 1853.

The cheapest way to get a full transcription of the marriage details is direct from the Registrar's Office at Coleraine Borough Council.  They will send a transcript for £4 plus postage (as far as I remember - may have been £3) if you call them on (028) 7034 7020 with the names, church and exact date.
