John George Hill 1811 [Lookup Request]

Hi,

I am trying to find out more about a John George Hill born abt 1811 in Bicker, Lincolnshire.

In the 1851 census he is living in West Haddon, Northamptonshire with his Wife Mary. I don't know her maiden name yet. Did he get married in Lincolnshire?.

I haven't been able to find him in the 1841 census as yet but I have found him in 1851 and 1861. I believe he died between 1863-1865.

Also John & Mary had some children called Laura Dickens Hill and George Walker Hall born in 1848 and 1851 and I am wondering if these middle names are connected to his Wife's maiden name or John's mothers name.

George's middle name is Walter on 1861 census

In 1841 census they are in West Haddon, John George is just using forename George
HO107 Piece 800 Book 12   Folio  29  Page  24

Frances' birth cert should give you Mary's maiden name if the baptisms don't

Hello,

Thank you for the link to freereg.org.uk. I have never used that before so I really appreciate that.  Using freereg I have been able to find John George's burial in West Haddon and some of the children's baptisms.

I found most of the baptisms at the Northampton record office yesterday. I might go and have another look at the marriages as I only started at 1837 really.

I am puzzled as in the 1841 census it says George was born in Northamptonshire but then in later censuses it says Bicker, Lincolnshire.

I don't know whether it is a coincidence but there is a marriage in 1835 in Wootton of a George Hill & Mary Dickens. This is why I was thinking about the Daughter's name being Laura Dickens Hill which is found in the later censuses.

If that's the only census anomaly you come across in all your research I'd be very surprised
 
It's probably just a mistake as all the others came from Northamptonshire

The marriage does look interesting, often people were (and still are) named after ancestor's surnames

Although the marriage looks good the first child is not born til 1840 which seems a long way from 1835 marriage.


I think a birth cert is the way to go. He could have even had 2 marriages to 2 Marys
