Local knowledge: Pendeen/St Just
« on: Wednesday 09 September 09 02:16 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help please ???

I would like to find out the wording on a Gravestone to see if there are any names on it I recognise. As the burial was in 1902, I guess there is a chance it has been grassed over by now. I know the person died in Trewellard, so think I need the Cemetery names or Church yards for  Pendeen and possibly St Just.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as I haven't a clue who would hold the MI's for these Gravestones. ???

Cornwall family hist soc has transcribed Pendeen parish memorials

and St Just in Penwith

If you post the name, I'll have a look. I may have the index somewhere and if not, someone else may.

You are going to groan at this one, an Eddy name.

Richard Eddy 1871- died Trewellard September 1902

This is a last ditched attempt as to him being my ggrand=dad, and the MI might be the answer. ::)

there's a Richard Eddy in the index buried in the Wesleyan Chapel cemetery in St Just, but no further detail, not even year of burial. He doesn't look very likely as the baptisms of his daughters are in the parish church

http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/personsearchdb.php

If no-one else can help, you could try CFHS in Truro

Many thanks osprey :)

Mine had a son Richard 1899 and a daughter Doris 1903, he was deceased by the time she was born.

Thank you for the Links, I have emailed The Records Office.

Fingers crossed. ;)

it's the family history society, not the records office. Both are in Truro.

If you use the person search form from the opc database and put in Richard Eddy and Just in Penwith, you get all mentions of the name which is how I found the baptisms for Doris and Richard. Lots of hits for the name Richard Eddy in Pendeen as well.

Thanks for pointing that out osprey, :)

Have hit a real problem with this one, even the on-line Parish Clerk can't help because so many of them with the same name. Have his marriage and children's certificates, but the one that died in 1902 left a Will , with no children or wife mentioned ???.
I want to see the MI to make sure he is not mine, and then I have to call it a day searching for him. If it's not him, mine must have either been a bigamist, died abroad without any record..or decided not to return home to the family. ???

I have made some progress, the Records Ofice provided his Burial date 01/10/1902, and that he was from Trewellard Cliff.

Now waiting to hear if there is an MI for him....fingers crossed.

Richard died at his residence (Sea-view, Lower Trewellard) on 26 Sep 1902 aged 31. He was the son of Richard Eddy and Sarah Trembath.
