Help to decipher mother's maiden name/father's occupation
« on: Thursday 10 September 09 22:43 BST (UK) »
Hello - I finally managed to get the BC of a sibling of a relative of mine. This was hard enough to track down but when the certificate arrived the maiden name of the mother is a complete mystery to me. I could take a stab at the father's profession but would like confirmation or clarification.

Looking forward to solving this and opening a new line of enquiry.

Thx in advance

Your call; but the C above suggests he likes his flourishes.

What was the father's name; and was it Southwick in Durham or Brighton (or neither)?

Indeed - flourishes a plenty. Father William Clark (son Joseph on this BC). Location is the North East - Sunderland. After watching Who Do You Think You Are with Kate Humble recently I thought it too much of a coincidence...

Hi.

On the 1841 Census there is a possible family although William
and Elizabeth seem to have married before Civil Registration.

H.O.107/299/8 Pg 29 Folio 17 Liddell Street, Monkwearmouth.

William Clark 27 Cordwainer Y
Elizabeth 30 Y
Elizabeth 6 Y
Margaret 3 Y
Jonathan 10 months Y

also Elizabeth Harrison 22 Y

William is also noted as a Cordwainer on the 1851.

Edited. Certainly looks like HUMBLE Richard.  :)

Shame ocupation is way off.

There is a marriage for a William Clark to an Elizabeth Humble
07 DEC 1834 in Tynemouth, Northumberland that could be possible.

On familysearch there are baptisms for Elizabeth, Richard
and other siblings noted as being in (Duston) Chester-Le-Street, Durham.

The parents are Henry Humble and Frances Young.

Richard married Jane Gates on 6th May 1843.

Until someone can confirm these are just possibilities.
