Look up please for Totnes. *NOW COMPLETED, thank you *
« on: Saturday 19 September 09 18:39 BST (UK) »
I have an Indenture document from the Borough and Parish of Totnes, dated 31st July 1805.   It is for a 12 year old lad called Richard Dain who was apprenticed to my 3x Gt grandfather Samuel Parnell who was a Cordwainer (Shoemaker).

Richard Dain was a 'poor child of the said parish' so would probably have been born there in approx 1793.

I am interested to know what became of him.  Did he finish his apprenticeship and work as a Cordwainer?  I have not been able to find him in Totnes Census returns and wondered if anyone else could look for me?

Many thanks,
KateW.

Thanks for confirming what I thought.  Perhaps the next thing I should check is death records.

Thanks,
KateW.

If he died - it must have been before 1837 as there is no death on freebmd

He may have emigrated

I think their apprenticeships only lasted until they were 21 years old so Richard Dain would have moved on by 1814.  There does not seem to be a birth record either, nothing on IGI, poor wee chap!!!
Samuel Parnell had another apprentice by 1817 who was 10 years old.

Thanks for your help Carole.
