HELP - John McKenzie
« on: Sunday 20 September 09 20:47 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have a John McKenzie born circa 1788 in Newfoundland Canada

By 1824 John was in Pontefract England where he married Sarah Holroyd.

I have no idea when John  or maybe his family moved to England or why.

Any information/help would be appreciated.

In later life John was a soldier, being listed as  Chelsea Pensioner by the 1851 Census.

Benn (Yorkshire), Cock (Ashill, Norfolk), Dickinson (Newton on Trent and Saxilby, Lincolnshire)  Rhodes (Yorkshire), Tew (Shropshire/Staffordshire), Wilks (Yorkshire)

Hello

Found transcriptions for possible baptisms if age or transcription off.

Feb 1, 1779, at St. John the Baptist Anglican Cathedral, St. Johns, NF. Son of Dugale Karr & Jenneh? Father is with the 42nd Regiment
(Dugale Carr McKenzie also found to be with 71st Regiment for daughter Ann bap April 29, 1781)

July 1, 1779 son of Alexander & Mary Cameron. Mother's maiden name Cameron? This Alexander may also be a soldier. There is a baptism for Margaret daughter of Alexander & Margaret May 3, 1782. Maybe a 2nd wife?? Listed as a soldier.
