John Paterson 1822-1880 pictures

John Paterson born in 1822 in Aberdeen,Scotland  helped shape the historical map of South Africa.In 1847 he married Francis Mary Kemp the daughter of Joshua Williamson Kemp Father of the first Board of Town commissioners of Port Elizabeth.
The sister of Joshua another Francis Mary Kemp married James Lyon of Bristol,England who traded through Algoa bay with his Kemp relations.

I am trying to trace the ancestry of Frances who married James Lyon my G,G,G Grandfather. Any source of information would be welcome.

There is a great book on the Kemp family  "The Kemps of the Border"  by M V Hall  (Ronnie Hall (nee Kemp I believe) - of England)

Also Ons Kemps by Maans Kemp - but this is in Afrikaans.
