James J Green Boot repairer, Longton, Staffs
« on: Saturday 26 September 09 18:34 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone
I am trying to find out details about my Grandfather James John Green.
Born 1873 Bordesley Green Birmingham.
He married a Maria Rhodes Born 1879 also Birmingham.
They were married in 1902 and moved to Longton, Stoke-on-Trent,Staffs.
James's trade was Boot Repairer.
First they lived at 8 Fleet Street where they had two children.
James Thomas Green Born 1906.
George Green Born 1908
James John had a Boot Repair shop at 118 Stafford Street, Longton.
(present day name, since 1950, The Strand)
Unfortunately,I believe he had a serious accident which left him badly crippled. This accident may have happened sometime between 1918 - 1920. Afterwards they returned to Birmingham.Believed to be 1920.
I have a picture of him circa.1912, outside his shop in Longton looking at a motorcycle.
My theory is he may have had an accident on the motorcycle. If this were so would it be recorded somewhere such as a Hospital or local paper.
My other theory is would he have had relatives living in Longton. After all it would have been quite a trauma moving from Birmingham to Longton.
I don't know if anyone can help or point me in the right direction.
Thanks.
