Passenger Lists to Australia
« on: Monday 28 September 09 17:59 BST (UK) »
Need help to find when Horace Leonard Garside went to Australia.

Thought he was on 1911 list but his military service dates lead us to believe it may have been after WW1.  We do know that he was on Queensland electoral roll in 1925.  Can anyone help trace him - he may be listed just as Leonard. He was born on 18 December 1893 and died in Oz in 1981.

What other options are there besides Passenger lists - Crew / stowaway???
Would be grateful for any help.
Thanks
Sue Garside :)

Hi Sue

The PROV Unassisted Inward Passenger Index has the following

Mr Horace GARSIDE age 29 arrived Melbourne May 1923 on the EURIPIDES
also onboard was Miss Flor GARSIDE age 25

http://proarchives.imagineering.com.au/index_search.asp?searchid=23

You would need to access the passenger list image to find his destination port.

Andy

Hi Sue,

Re Horace L Garside.... Do you have a copy of his death certificate ?  He's not on my tree, and I don't have any connection.... but there's lots of genie information on NSW certificates, including for those NOT born in NSW, the certificates usually state how long the person has been in NSW....  I'm not sure of the other Australian States certificates, but .... perhaps they too give that info.

I have had a quick look for your chap using my Anc***** sub, and gone through the NSW arrivals, not sighted him there....  But there's another online site, which has volunteers transcribing the passenger lists for arrivals in NSW waters....  its worthwhile checking the following link on a regular basis, as they upload frequently.

 http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/

Also, there's the Australian board here at Rchat  ;)

Cheers,  JM
