Confusion on Killasser Addresses
« on: Saturday 03 October 09 13:41 BST (UK) »
I have 3 ancestor who are siblings from Killasser around 1865, and on their baptismal records the addresses listed in the record are Knockgarry, Knockganny and Knockgowny. I don't know why there are 3 diffrent listings for addresses when they were siblings born a year or so apart.  I'm from the US, can someone give me  basic instructions on understanding addresses in County Mayo?
Is this a village, farm township? I could only find Knockganny on the internet.. Do the others still exist?

thank you for  this site!

Killasser is a Parish in Swinford Mayo.  The Knockganny you have found I would say is Knockranny the parish for this is Oughaval and is in Westpoint Mayo.
If the others ever exisited they don't appear to be here now.Often very small villages would no longer exist over time.
You say your Ancesters were from Killasser. That would be a good place to start.
